What's going on with Homegrown Country???

6/8/2007 11:59:54 AM
All the advertisements and radio adds began with saying talent agents and scouts would be onhand at the shows along with songwriters band and such. If you have talent the add said come and perform. Upon my visit to the show when it was at MLA there was'nt any local talent and it seemed that all was going on was a showcase for some band called the Davidson Brothers!!! There were a couple singers that performed in between the band sets but after talking to them they had to get invited to sing after singing on a personal karaoke player in a college hall at Buckhannon! I called Days Hotel to inquiry about the event and was told that if you have talent of any kind come on out and perform in front of all these scouts and such. So I thought maybe the first show was a test and attended the second one and nothing changed!! I then asked the director at the facility when the so called tryouts are because i can juggle flawlessly (NOT) and was told it's all about singing (HUH) seems unless you sing you cannot perform before the pros or anyone else for that matter. Anyway my point is they come to town and give locals a little hope of being heard olny to find you pay $5.00 to hear local talent and hear a showcase band with a couple people in between singing. My point in all this is why lie to people and tell them that its a talent showcase when actually the BEAR 101.3 not our local radio station can come to our town lie to us about the use of the MLA take our money. then bring talent from out of county to perform here! I know there is a lot of great talent here and would pay good money to here them perform at the MLA. Each year we have a karaoke contest at the fair and am blown away by some of the talent there, two come to mind the KARAOKE COWBOYS these guys are fantastic and make the crowd laugh why are they not invited to sing?? Anyway maybe the local radio station should hold a local talent night or weekend i'm sure it would draw a crowd.

John,
Home Grown Country LIve is a joint venture between Mountain Lakes Amphitheater and WV Radio's 101.3 the Bear . We regret to inform you that the show was never intended to be a talent contest. 101.3 has full control off the show's production. As with anything worth doing, the talent is screened by professionals before they perform in a live broadcast. There are talent scouts in the audience and those who perform have had opportunity to speak with the talent scouts. Anyone within Braxton County can pick up an entry form at the MLA Box Office, located in the South Tower Gift Shop at Days Hotel in Flatwoods. This form can also be downloaded from our website. We encourage any Braxton County singers, songwriters or bands to pick up the entry form and get started on their way to performing live at our theater.
The Davisson Brothers are the host band and at times provide the music for a singer who doesn't have his or her own band.
We thank you for taking the time to let us know of your concerns.
